First Infiltration Summer 2008
This trip was quite unplanned. Arilem and Phoenix Enigma were in Weyburn the night before
talking to locals about the hospital. One of the people they talked to gave us a couple hints
on where to access the building. I received a call from them that evening and I was ready to
head directly down there to see the hospital. We decided to make our entry the next day.
The next day I found a way to get out of work for the day and raced down to Weyburn to meet
up with my fellow explorers. We quickly made our entry and we had full run of the hospital.
We spent over 6 hours in the building. We didn’t spend too much time in any one particular area
and we kept moving so we could see the whole building. We could have spent months in this place
just to see it all in detail. However we never got the opportunity. Little did we know at
the time that this would be our best chance to see the hospital. I never got an opportunity
to do any real photography in the hospital. My photos are primarily quickly composed snapshots
with the little time we had available for photography.
The laundry area in the basement
All the stairwells were caged in the hospital
Arilem in the tunnel between the main building the power plant
Basement of the power plant under the generators
A few of the generators that were in the power plant
The 3 main boilers were surprisingly new and they were huge
Basement in the north east wing - we didn't find many beds in
the hospital as most had been auctioned.
The theatre / auditorium
The more modern areas were in the worst shape due to the flat roofs in this area.
The section that still had the peaked slate roof faired much better after abandonment.
The staff left several messages on the walls when the hospital closed. This was one of the
more interesting works that we saw.
This dorm hadn't been used in many years
Some very pealy paint in this dorm in the north east wing
This dorm was so clean that we found it unusual. We took a break here and had some water and
beef jerky. This area was in use until about 2004.
The only dorm that still had curtains
A dayroom / activity room
Looking out on the north east wing - shot from the south east wing
Attick area in the north east wing - I was surprised that no one ever lit the place on fire
The top floor of the north east wing - this floor hadn't been used since 1971
Basment in the maintenance area located in the south east wing
This area was in a very dark place far away from the entrance that we found. The vandals
appeard to have never made it this far as I even found a crate of pane glass that was unbroken.
